Week 1 Recap – 30 Day Green Smoothie Challenge

I have successfully completed my first week of the 30 day green smoothie challenge. I drank a quart or more of green smoothies every day.  I started to document this journey every day, but that proved to be too time consuming.  Instead, I will make notes each day and then provide a weekly recap.

Week 1 Summary

My two favorites were the Super Green Morning Glory and the Dark Blue Green smoothies.  They will become regulars for me.

Other than visiting the produce stand more often and with a focus, the challenge hasn’t noticeably changed me. I don’t feel more or less energy. Bathroom habits have remained unchanged (2 – 4 BM’s a day). I’m sleeping the same. I typically fall asleep fast and sleep soundly. I don’t wake up with bounds of energy.

I did notice the first couple of days on the challenge I didn’t’t want to go to bed. That is odd for me because I am usually very tired by 9:00 PM. It might be unrelated to the diet because the last couple of nights I was in bed early.

I drink less coffee, but that has more to do with my new homemade ginger, honey, and lemon tea routine first thing in the morning.

I still crave junk food, but that might be caused by letting myself get too hungry when I am not in a place to grab something more nutritious. I ate at McDonald’s yesterday. I had a Big Mac, fries, diet Coke, and a six piece McNugget with sweet and sour sauce.

I felt super guilty afterward, but it tasted sooo good! It shouldn’t have now should it? I’ve also eaten 3 (maybe 4) boxes of Milk Duds during this past week. Milk Duds are my ultimate junk food. If this 30 day green smoothie diet can cure me of my Milk Dud addiction, that would be something!

Well, it has only been 7 days.

A couple of changes to make the next week go better:

  • I will drink 2 – 4 cups of water between meals. I want to be very conscientious that I am drinking at least 8 cups (4 bottles) throughout the day.
  • I will plan my smoothie meals better so that I don’t have another day 6. The plan is to go produce shopping for 3 – 4 smoothies at a time.
  • I plan to start an hour walking routine in the morning before my green smoothie, but after my ginger tea.
  • I will make an effort to limit junk food this week, but making no promises.
  • I am also planning to stop eating after 6:00 PM each night and fasting for 13 – 14 hours before I eat in the morning.

I will see how I do with these changes and also make some more adjustments/improvements as needed next check-in.
