Healthy Snack Bar Recipe

I am addicted to the goop blog (www.goop.com).   I came across a healthy recipe on the goop website that I must share with you.   In theory granola-type snack bars are supposed to be good for you, but the kind you buy in the store have too many artificial chemicals and unnecessary preservatives.

The nice thing about this recipe is you can swap out any of the top 4 ingredients listed for something similar in texture and value.   Continue reading Healthy Snack Bar Recipe

Week 1 Recap – 30 Day Green Smoothie Challenge

I have successfully completed my first week of the 30 day green smoothie challenge. I drank a quart or more of green smoothies every day.  I started to document this journey every day, but that proved to be too time consuming.  Instead, I will make notes each day and then provide a weekly recap.

Week 1 Summary

Day 1: Kale-Blueberry Surprise

30 Day Green Smoothie Challenge

I am starting the new year with a couple get-healthy challenges.  My first one is a 30 Day Green Smoothie Challenge.  I found this particular challenge in the book, Green for Life, by Victoria Boutenko.  At the end of the 30 days there are 12 questions I am to answer to describe my experience.

The Challenge:  Drink a minimum of one quart of a green smoothie every day for 30 days. Continue reading 30 Day Green Smoothie Challenge

Tammy’s Mean Green Juice

I have been dabbling in juicing these past 4 – 5 weeks.  The more I use other people’s recipes to learn certain taste combinations, the more ambitious and creative I’ve become.

Here is one of the most popular green juices created by Joe Cross and Phil Staples from their Reboot Program.

Mean Green Juice

  •  1 cucumber
  • 4 celery stalks
  • 2 apples
  • 6-8 leaves kale (Australian tuscan cabbage)
  • 1/2 lemon
  • 1 tbsp ginger

For a basic green juice, the original Mean Green Juice outlined above is a great place to get started.  Below is my mean green juice adaptation. Continue reading Tammy’s Mean Green Juice
